Toza - M.F.A., Royal Art Academy, Belgrade, Yugoslavia

 

1933 to 1939 - Studied painting, drawing and design at the Royal Art Academy,
Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Earned a B.F.A. there in 1938 and graduated with an M.F.A. in 1939.

 

1953 to 1955 - Independently studied and studied with, painters working and teaching in
Paris, including the Chinese painter Zao Wou Ki, during the two years waiting to emigrate.

 

1954 - Studied with Mogens Bjorn Andersen (former apprentice then designer for Georg
Jensen) in his metal shop in Copenhagen.

 

1954 - Studied filagree metal techniques at a workshop in Italy.

 

1955 - Studied with Hans Christensen at the School for American Craftsmen, Rochester
Institute of Technology.

 

1955 to 1989 - Continued to study and acquire new techniques independently from
many artists.

 

Ruth - B.F.A. from Sarah Lawrence College and University of Michigan at Ann Arbor

 

1938 - Summer, attends the Experiment in International Living project in Norway,
Sweden, Denmark and Holland (later part of "World Learning" in Brattleborro, Vt)

 

1940 - Summer, attends the "Experiment in International Living" project in Peru, Panama
and Ecuador as she couldn't return to Europe due to the war. Sustains a serious back
injury and contracts amoebic dysentery, neither of which she ever fully recovered from.

 

1940-1942 and 1948-1949 - Attended Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville/
Yonkers, NY, majored in art, minored in anthropology and journalism. She took a break
from school in her junior year due to the outbreak of WWII.

 

1948 - Attended summer session at Mills College in Oakland, CA to study enameling and
silversmithing as well as ceramics with Carlton Ball.

 

1948 to 1949 - Returns to college and transfers to the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor
from Sarah Lawrence for her senior year, majors in art, graduates with a B.F.A.

 

1949 - 1952 - Attends School for American Craftsmen at Alfred University in Alfred, NY
to study metalwork with John Prip. S.A.C. moves to Rochester Institute of Technology in
1949, Ruth follows the school to Rochester, NY.

 

1951/1952 - Studied metalwork at a school in Rome, Italy while waiting for Toza.

 

1952 - Returns to the US to study silversmithing with John Prip and Hans Christensen
at the School for American Craftsmen now at R.I.T., NY.

 

1954 - Studied with Mogens Bjorn Andersen (former apprentice and designer for Georg
Jensen) in his metal shop in Copenhagen.

 

1954 - Studied filagree metal techniques at a workshop in Italy.
